15th FORATOM-IAEA Management Systems Workshop
16-19 July 2018 – Ottawa Canada

Douglas Brown

Manager – Sargent & Lundy LLC

Chair – ASME Standards Committee on Nuclear Quality Assurance

Mr. Brown was employed by the Commonwealth Edison Company for 26 years in both BWR and PWR construction, startup and operations as well as managing the nuclear QA topical report for a 13 unit nuclear fleet before joining Sargent and Lundy Engineers in Chicago. For 16 years as an S&L Project Manager and Consultant, he has been involved with plant restarts, major EPU and Turbine Retrofits, fleet-wide PM Optimization, and Single Point Vulnerability reduction projects. In addition, he spent 5 years working with US DOE facilities including support of several National Laboratories. As a 30+ year veteran of ASME at the Board of Nuclear Codes and Standards level and on the NQA-1 Committee, including nine years as the chair of ASME NQA, he is intimately familiar with the content and arrangement of NQA-1. This includes issues involving supply chain management particularly, component obsolescence and availability of qualified suppliers leading to a need for Commercial Grade Dedication. His most current challenge involves work with IAEA on the adjustment of ISO Management Systems to re-focus on the processes of Quality Assurance and Quality Control when nuclear supply and operations are involved. This lends value to his insights into the applicability of the essentials of CGD to the global nuclear economy.
